PERPIGNANT EVENT

Catalan city par excellence, Perpignan takes place in the department of the Pyrénées-Orientales, in the heart of the Occitan region. Located thirty kilometers from the Spanish border, the city labeled City of Art and History is located in the center of the Roussillon plain, about ten kilometers from Canet-en-Roussillon and the Mediterranean Sea. Capital of the former continental Kingdom of Majorca between 1276 and 1344, Perpignan was born in the 9th century. But this is not the end of the 10th century that the city really took off, becoming the capital of the Roussillon Counts. Long Spanish, the Catalan city will have to wait until the middle of the 17th century until it reaches the kingdom of France. Closely attached to its Catalan roots and culture, Perpignan is now primarily a tourist city. The charm of its atmosphere, its architectural heritage and its festive events, it is an ideal place to spend a holiday in the south of France.

The historical-artistic city of Perpignan is located about thirty kilometers from the Spanish border. From its past as the former continental capital of the Kingdom of Mallorca, it preserves a historic center of harmonious architecture, where Gothic art predominates.

Built at the end of the 14th century, and renovated in the time of Louis XI, the famous Castillet, whose terrace offers an incomparable view of the roofs of the town, is the emblem of Perpignan. After entering the imposing fortified gate, wander through the narrow shopping streets and discover the treasures of the old city: the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist (14th-18th centuries), topped by a wrought-iron campanile, whose choir houses a marble altarpiece from the 17th century, and whose chapel of the Cristo Devoto preserves a wooden Christ from the 14th century; the old funerary cloister of San Juan, from the beginning of the 14th century -the Campo Santo-, the largest and oldest of its kind in all of France; the Plaza de la Lonja, with the Lonja de Mar, an extraordinary Gothic-style building; the palace-fortress of the kings of Majorca, from the 13th and 14th centuries, with its gardens that dominate the city; the courtyard of the Town Hall, with the bronze statue The Mediterranean, by the sculptor Maillol...

Also enjoy a few moments of relaxation walking through the pleasant Bir Hakeim square or along the majestic Paseo de los Plataneros, dotted with statues.

El Castillet was successively the city gate and state prison before being declared a Historic Monument in 1889. Currently, it houses a museum that recreates the history of Northern Catalonia from Antiquity to the present day.

Every year, around April 23, Sant Jordi is celebrated, the feast of the patron saint of Catalonia. For this reason, Gambetta square is transformed into a true open-air bookstore, where the book is honored by the presence of publishers, writers and bookstores. This festive day, full of animation, is also the day of the rose, whose celebration dates back to the 15th century!

For all this and many other things, we believe that it is the ideal place to create a festival that focuses on independent filmmakers and screenwriters. With a region of more than 300,000 inhabitants and a long tradition with cinema and its events, it assures us that we can have a great reach to be able to promote all the selected works.
